Namibia with Crooked Compass

Crooked Compass - Namibia: The ultimate conservation experience for those fascinated with the big cats and nomadic cultures.

Location: Namibia

Dates: 1st - 12th Apr 2019 & 8th - 19th Sep 2019

Conservation facts: On the Crooked Compass - Raw Namibia tour, you’ll be in the throes of conservation from Day 1.

On the first day of your tour, you’ll head to the research and conservation facility of the Cheetah Conservation Fund, visit the museum and learn about the behavior and biology of the cheetah, and other aspects of cheetah conservation - i.e. how their range and numbers have diminished, and the unique Namibian ecosystem.

On one of the later days, you’ll visit the Global Leopard Project, and learn about Erindi leopards through a photo and audio presentation (Erindi’s Global Leopard Project is a registered foundation dedicated to the conservation of leopards through research and communication).

You’ll explore reserves for endangered and protected species, such as the black and white rhino, roan and sable antelope and buffalo. You’ll also visit the Nyae Nyae Pans, a large complex of salt pans within the 9,000 square kilometre conservation area that surrounds Tsumkwe (the local communities here have been given the right to manage their wildlife and tourism in a sustainable way).

Style: This 12-day small group tour explores the rich wildlife and cultures of Namibia in an awesomely unique manner.

On this trip, you’ll go tracking for lions, elephants and leopards; you’ll walk with caracals and go behind the scenes of the Cheetah Conservation Fund and the Global Leopard Project; join San Bushmen around their evening fire and listen to their traditional stories about the stars, animals, galaxies and the universe; and go on a bush hunt with the Ju'hoan hunters, collecting bush foods of berries, tubers, honey and small animals. It’s unlike anything you’ve done before!

Suitable for: Couples, groups of friends, adventure/culture/photography enthusiasts.
